Roadway & Utility Design
Roadway and Utility Design typically occur within the public right-of-way. This design is also referred to as linear development. Roadway and utility design includes coordination with both public and private agencies to construct a new or reconstruct an existing roadway and it’s utility infrastructure. In the case of roadway reconstruction, franchise agreements may have occurred between private utility companies and municipalities. When a franchise agreement occurs, the utility company typically has the right to construct their infrastructure (i.e gas, electric, phone, fiber optics, etc.) within the public right-of-way. Depending on the scope of the roadway development, design to relocate these utilities may be required.
